Avon High School graduate Katie Kocar has witnessed the effects cancer has on a child and families. Her Avon neighbor, Michael Sparkman, passed away on Oct. 21, 2008 at the age of 7 from the disease. Since then she has made it her mission to raise funds for local hospitals to assist families dealing with cancer.
This year Kocar will be lacing up her tennis shoes to bike 180 miles from Cincinnati to Bowling Green in April. Her goal is to raise more than $1,000.
