General League Rules

  • Last teams playing, we ask players to unhook the court lines, under the net and wrap the lines on the spool and place rope and court corner hold downs into proper bag. Note: DO NOT start winding the ropes at the corner of the court and double the lines up.

  • All games officially begin at starting time on Thursday, if both teams are on the court and ready to play before the time and the previous game is complete. They may begin their game at that time.

  • Ten minutes after starting time, that team forfeits their first game, after 20 minutes the match is forfeited.

  • If a team CANNOT make the league night, please contact the team that you are scheduled to play, DO NOT call league director.

  • Winning team by forfeit must mark on the result sheet for that week their wins and the forfeit teams losses with the letter "F" next to it.

  • If a team shows after the starting horn for that set of games, there will be no warm ups for that team.

  • Teams may not go to another court to play their game, unless they pass it through the league director.

  • All games will be played at scheduled times.

  • Will have a Make up Week if only 1 week gets rained out..

  • Play rain or shine, if weather hampers setup for leagues, then they will be cancelled for that week.

Playing Rules

  • Touch, on the block, constitutes as a hit

  • Ball may be played off any part of the body

  • Open hand serve reception is legal just as long as it comes of clean.

  • Service order, if a team is out of service order, no point or side out is given. The team out of service order will continue with that new service order for the remaining balance of that game.

  • No open hand dink – a player may cobra (contact the ball with fingers closed) or fist the ball over.

  • A ball may be served anywhere along the back line.

  • A ball is in legal play if it hits any part of the boundary lines.

  • There are no antennas out doors, the poles represent the playing area when the ball passes over the net. If the ball passes anywhere over the poles or outside the pole standards then the ball is out of bounds.

  • Setting the ball over. The ball must be set perpendicular with the player’s shoulders before it may pass over the net. This applies to a forward and backward set.

Substitutes and Alternates

  • A team may use as many alternates as you wish during the course of the year.

  • A team must always have an original registered player on the court every week. (two alternates may not play at same time)

  • Substitutes are between games only, not during the process of a game.

  • A substitute is permissible to play for more then one team in a division. However, if that substitute plays for more then one team and is expected to play in the playoffs for a team. He or she must call David Dorinski one week prior to playoffs and register with the team he or she is expected to play.

Scoring

  • All leagues refereeing are on the honor system. Teams playing each other are expected to make their own calls or even calls on the opposing team.

  • Each week, all teams are responsible for putting their own game results on the score sheet that can be found next to the brief case located on the ramp to the beach on the East end.

  • Any team not entering each week’s game results will have the following week to do so. Anything after the following week will go in as a loss regardless of wins or losses. Any none recorded losses will be used for determining playoff seeding.

  • You may also call or e-mail in game results to David Dorinski if you had forgotten to mark your results for that week.

Playoffs

  • An alternate must have played at least two weeks during the season to play during playoffs, unless a player is injured and it has been passed through David Dorinski, Bob Armstrong, or Jeff Yeager one week before playoffs

  • Teams not making playoffs will be notified after the final week.

  • If your team cannot make playoffs for some reason, please leave a note on the Score Sheet the last week so your team is not scheduled for playoffs.
