ECE Students Collect Tools to Support Habitat for Humanity

The Early Childhood Education Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) sponsored a student project entitled ‘Tools for Humanity.’ The students are collecting new tools and money to help Habitat for Humanity replace tools that were stolen at one of the Lorain Habitat houses. Additional moneys and tools will be sent to Louisiana to help with the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

A ‘wish list’ was provided by a local Habitat for Humanity chapter and tools are being purchased and/or collected from that list.

In addition, over $200 was collected from the administrative team at the JVS and given to Lakeshore Tool & Equipment for the purchase of tools and equipment. Lakeshore Tool has been a strong supporter of the JVS for many years. Because of this long-standing relationship, they also donated tools valued at over $200.

“I’ve seen a lot of hardship this year and just wanted to contribute in some way,” commented Tim Hartsel, owner of Lakeshore Tool & Equipment.

Hartsel delivered a Makita cordless impact driver, cordless driver/drill set and a florescent flashlight. He also brought a Bosch reciprocating saw kit. These tools will be combined with the other tools being collected through this student initiative.

“The students have really embraced this project and look forward to contributing a nice package of tools and cash toward the Habitat for Humanity effort and the rebuilding efforts in Louisiana,” stated Lisa Robson, Early Childhood Education lab instructor.
