2/5 -- Come have fun for a great cause. Luba's Blanket will be meeting on Friday, February 10, 2006 at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 2238 East 32nd Street, Lorain, to continue to knit/crochet blankets and scarves for those less fortunate in Lorain County. We are a fledgling organization who could use a lot of hands. Feel free to bring friends. If you do not know how to knit/crochet, there will be someone there to teach you.

ECE Students Collect Tools to Support Habitat for Humanity

12/16 -- The Early Childhood Education Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) sponsored a student project entitled ‘Tools for Humanity.’ The students are collecting new tools and money to help Habitat for Humanity replace tools that were stolen at one of the Lorain Habitat houses. Additional moneys and tools will be sent to Louisiana to help with the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

Bendix Sponsors Hurricane Relief Program

11/8 -- As part of its extensive community involvement initiative, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC announced its sponsorship of a local program to assist the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The “We’ve Got Your Back” Campaign is part of a nationwide initiative to provide backpacks filled with school supplies and personal items to school-age children affected by the storms.

11/1 -- The Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005 helps those who need it most – low- and moderate-income taxpayers who may have otherwise lost important tax benefits as a result of the hurricane, according to H&R Block.

Fast Tax Relief and Refunds for Hurricane Katrina Victims

10/27 -- To help Hurricane Katrina victims get faster tax relief and access to tax refunds, H&R Block is offering those victims free preparation and filing of amended 2004 returns that claim weather- and theft-related losses resulting from the storm.

Indoor Garage Sale to Help Hurricane Victims

10/19 -- An indoor garage sale to raise money for hurricane victims is being held Saturday, October 22, 2005 from 9am to 6pm. Sponsored by St. Mary Church, Lorain, the sale will be in the cafeteria. Enter through Johnson Hall on 7th Street. Items include toys, books, microwave, exercycle, dishes, small appliances, computer programs, costume jewelry, games, much more. Bake goods will be available for sale. There will also be a Silent Auction from 10am - noon, proceeds to benefit the Church.

Nylonge Employees Raise Aid For Katrina Relief

10/5 -- On Thursday, September 22, 2005, employees of the Nylonge Company in Elyria delivered a check for $2200 to the Lorain County Chapter of the American Red Cross. This was the result of a challenge by the company to employees that it would match any amount the employees raised. Both came through for the effort, with employees raising $1100 and the company matching it.

Rescue Her - Benefit Concert for Hurricane Katrina

10/2 -- Join The Rock, a Center for Spiritual Renewal, at their fundraising concert, Rescue Her, on Saturday, October 15, 2005. Rescue Her features eight bands that will play throughout the evening to help raise funds for the Hurricane Katrina Disaster. The concert begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m. $5 per person entry fee. Proceeds from the entry fees and a portion of merchandise sales will be donated to the American Red Cross. For additional information, contact (440) 284-5999.
