A typical class... We begin our classes by bowing to the flags and then the instructor. Much of martial arts is rooted in respect for each other and ourselves; bowing is a physical sign of respect.
Each class will usually start with a period of calesthenics, stretching, and general martial arts movement (i.e. punching, kicking, etc). Each student can set his or her pace but we usually exercise to music and try to stay in beat with the music.
After calesthenics and/or stretching the class begins working on specific focuses of the art. One day we may practice self defense, the next day we might do hand techniques or sparring. Most days we do two or three specific activities.
As the class winds down the instructor will generally highlight the evening with important information and upcomming events.
Our final task is to line up and bow the flags, the instructor, and each other.
