Our System

Welcome to the Hapkido School of Indomitable Spirit. Our school is run by Sensei or Master Michael Peto. Master Peto is a 4th Dan (Degree) black belt in Hapkido. He has also had exposure at various levels to the arts of Kenpo, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. You will find that this school uses Hapkido for a base and blends in the best of other martial arts with it. We are affiliated with an organization called Koreja Do. This is a Christian Martial Arts organization which provides support and accreditation to our school. While you do not have to be a Christian to learn with us, we do follow Christian principles and learn Christian teachings. You will find that we pray for ourselves and one another, memorize Bible verses, and try to become more Christ-like while glorifying our Lord through our art form.

What We Teach
Grappling- Fighting using throws, bars, and chokes from the ground and while standing
Sparring- Contact fighting using various strikes
Self Defense- We teach various self defense techniques that apply to common situations as well as uncommon situations
Weapons- We teach long stick, short stick, and cane techniques. At more advanced levels, and for the competition team, we teach sword, knife, and nunchaku techniques.
General Exercise- We will give you the tools to experience a healthier lifestyle inside and outside of the school
Korean Terminology- Hapkido is a Korean martial art, as such we learn their terms and customs
Self Discipline- We firmly believe that true respect starts with yourself and spreads outward
Forms - Perfecting movement through pre-arranged sequences of techniques

Ranking
As students progress in the art they are awarded ranks in the form of different colored belts. Rank preceding black belt are called gups and are numbered in reverse order 10th to 1st. They are listed in order for you here, click on each to see the requirements:
10th Gup – White
9th Gup – Yellow
8th Gup – Orange
7th Gup – Green
6th Gup – Blue
5th Gup – Purple
4th Gup – Brown
3rd Gup – Brown Sr.
2nd Gup – Red
1st Gup – Red Sr.
1st Dan – Black Belt
2nd Dan – Second Degree Black Belt
3rd Dan – Third Degree Black Belt/Instructor
