Board Offers Free Certification in Mental Health First Aid

October 28, 2016 — The is offering a free Mental Health First Aid course, open to anyone who lives or works in Lorain County. The training will be held November 8 and 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Amy Levin Conference and Learning Center, 1165 North Ridge Road East, in Lorain.

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches participants to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses. Just as CPR is a life-saving technique that can help in a health emergency, Mental Health First Aid training can assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, participants learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health concerns, strategies to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to find resources.

The course requires no prior knowledge of health topics. Attendees must complete both morning sessions to receive certification.
