October 27, 2014 — To promote early detection and help people in our community learn more about their health, Mercy will present a free health screening event. The program will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at , 41201 Schaden Road, Elyria.

Program participants will have the opportunity to undergo a variety of free screenings, including:

- Skin cancer

- Prostate cancer

- Vitamin D levels

- Bone density

- Blood pressure

- Body mass index

- Balance screenings

Registration is required for skin and prostate cancer screenings. Space is limited so participants can register by calling 440-324-0493 before Oct. 30.

In addition to health screenings, the event will feature a number of educational activities. Staff of Mercy Cancer Center will provide information on cancer-fighting foods, including recipes, and displays on topics like breast health and advanced directives assistance.

Mercy is dedicated to increasing access to healthcare services in Lorain County. The healthcare screening event will allow participants to obtain free preventative care and learn more about their personal health so they can make appropriate lifestyle decisions. Chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes and cancer can often be prevented or managed, especially if they're caught early.
