March 21, 2012 -- Alert for the Water & Wastewater Community - New Federal Funding Opportunity:
The EPA announced early this month the availability of $15 million in grant funding for training and technical assistance to small drinking and wastewater systems, defined as systems that serve fewer than 10,000 people, and private well owners. This represents more than 97 percent of the nation's 157,000 public water systems, many of which face financial challenges in providing reliable drinking water and wastewater services than meet federal and state regulations. The funding will help provide water systems' staff with much needed training and tools to enhance system operations and management practices so they can better serve local communities.
Applications from qualifying water and wastewater systems must be received by EPA by April 9, 2012. EPA expects to award these cooperative agreements by Summer. 2012. For more information about these competitive announcements, visit water.epa.gov/grants_funding/sdwa/smallsystemsrfa.cfm.
