Profile) Council At-Large candidate Phil Van Treuren recently launched an extensive, month-long project to survey local business owners about what issues are most important to them. Van Treuren plans to personally deliver the survey to hundreds of local business owners in the coming month, which he says will give him a better understanding of how Amherst can revive its economy and compete with other cities for businesses and jobs.
"As a small business owner, I know what it means to put your own valuable time and money into running a company," Van Treuren said. "Making sure that Amherst businesses have the tools they need to succeed is going to be one of my top priorities as a councilman."
The survey will include questions about city rules on building appearance, the helpfulness of city officials, and parking accommodations. Van Treuren says that all information gleaned from the survey will remain completely confidential, and he plans to publish general results on his campaign website at www.PhilVanTreuren.com.
"Rather than take the easy route of mailing out the survey, I’m going to personally deliver it to hundreds of Amherst business owners in the coming month," Van Treuren said. "I'm looking forward to meeting local business owners and hearing their thoughts about how we can improve our local economy."
Van Treuren, 31, is the owner of Ohio State Web Design. A former Army officer in the Combat Engineer Corps, Van Treuren lives in Amherst with his wife Jessica and children Alex, Andrew and Sophia.
