Employment:
I have served as a Prosecutor for the City of Elyria, Ohio for the past 22 years. Presently I am a Chief Prosecutor in the Elyria Municipal Court for the Village of Grafton and the City of Elyria and Acting prosecutor for the city of North Ridgeville and the Village of LaGrange. I was in private practice with the law firm of Grunda and Grunda.

Education:
I am a graduate of the Lorain City Schools and graduated in 1979 from Lorain Admiral King High School. My bachelor of Arts degree was from the University of Toledo in 1983 and my juris doctorate degree is from Ohio Northern University College of Law in Ada, Ohio in 1986. I have taken continuing education courses since passing the bar exam to keep abreast of changes in the law.

Community Involvement:
I am a graduate of Leadership Lorain County class of 2004 and am a member of the Lorain County Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Vermilion Boat Club, the Elks Club, the United State Power Squadron, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Family:
My parents are Joseph and Joyce Grunda and I have been a lifelong resident of Lorain County and a resident of the city of Elyria for 23 years. . My father, Joe, is the former Lorain County Prosecutor. I am from a large family consisting of two brothers, Joe and Jeff and two sisters, Joyce and Justine. I am an Uncle to 2 nephews and 4 nieces. My life has been enriched with strong family values and encouragement and support from my family.

Why would you like to be elected?
I feel that my experience, knowledge of the law, and my integrity have prepared me to serve the constituents of the Elyria Municipal Court. My love of Lorain County and my commitment to the courts and the principles of our judicial system have served as my basis for pursing the judgeship of the Elyria Municipal Court. I am a dedicated public servant and have more experience in and with the Municipal Court than my opponent. I posses the knowledge of Municipal Court law, and how the court functions and operates. My qualifications make me the most capable and qualified candidate to handle the duties of this position and can ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the court. Lastly, I posses the judicial temperament necessary to insure that justice is administered evenly and fairly to all citizens within the jurisdiction of the Elyria Municipal Court

What would you like to accomplish if elected?
I would like to continue the strong traditions and values of the Elyria Municipal Court. I would serve as an honest, forthright, and stalwart steward of this position. The main issue of this election is to have a plan to continue to keep the courts operating in a smooth and efficient manner within the difficult economic times. My plan will offer more for less to meet the needs of the court and the community. Using a realignment of the courts hours and days of operation and examining alternative sentencing options, plus the increased use of technology will allow the courts to become more “green”. Through several restructuring initiatives I will provide more services without spending more money.

How do you think Internet technology will impact government services?
The use of technology in the 21st century has facilitated the services of all governmental offices. I will create a more efficient system to deal with the matters of the court using technology. The use of technology will reduce the amount of paper and makes the courts more environmentally friendly. Using video arraignments reduces prisoner transportation and is more cost efficient to the budget of the court. The ultimate goal of increasing the use of technology will make the courts become more green.

What one bit of information do people not normally know about you?
My first love is law but my second love is boating! I am a boating enthusiast and have been a boater for the majority of my life. It served as a wonderful family activity and many members of my family are still actively involved in boating when we have the opportunities to be together. I enjoy navigation and have traveled to four of the five Great Lakes. My father, Joseph R. Grunda, and I enjoy plotting out a course to a destination and exploring new ports and harbors.
