| Employment: |
| I currently serve as a Magistrate in the Lorain County Domestic Relations/Juvenile Court and have held that position since March of 2001. As a Magistrate, I preside over trials and hearings covering various issues that arise under domestic relations and juvenile law. I then consider the evidence before me and render a decision in writing. Prior to my appointment as a Magistrate, I served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office. I have also worked as an Associate Attorney in two Cleveland-area law firms. |
| Education: |
| I graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in May of 1992, and received a BA in History, with Honors, in May of 1988. I am also a graduate of the U.S. Army's Basic and Advanced Engineer Officer Courses, Basic and Advanced Judge Advocate Officer Courses, and the Command and General Staff Officer's Course. This past May I graduated from the U.S. Army's Judge Course in Charlottesville, VA. I was merit selected to attend this Course and with my completion of same have been appointed as Ohio's Military Judge with summary and special court-martials jurisdiction over all Ohio Army and Air National Guard cases. |
| Community Involvement: |
| I am a parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Avon, and a member of the Lorain County Farm Bureau. I also serve as a military lawyer in the Ohio Army National Guard with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was previously a member of the City of Lorain's Company B, 112th Engineer Battalion. During the course of my 18 years as a Guardsman, I have been deployed on many occasions with units tasked to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to people in North East Ohio, Louisiana, Honduras and the Republic of Panama. I have also served, and continue to serve, in support of operations dedicated to winning the war on terror. |
| Family: |
| I have been married to Stephanie, formally Barnicle, for nearly eleven years. We have a daughter Nicole, age 22, and a son Jack, age 8. |
| Why would
you like to be elected? |
| To serve as a Judge has been my goal since law school. I have served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and now a Magistrate in anticipation of reaching that goal. I consider public service to be an honor, and know that I have much to offer the people of Lorain County. |
| What
would you like to accomplish if elected? |
| If elected, it is my goal that when I complete my service it will be said the Judge Jeff Csokmay was a fair and honorable jurist. I want a lasting reputation that will make both the people of Lorain County and myself proud. |
| How do
you think Internet technology will impact government services? |
| In the judicial arena, it allows the Court to conduct effective legal research in a most efficient and thorough manner. The research tools the internet provides promotes expeditious, yet well informed, judicial decision making. Internet technology also educates the public on the general structure of the Court, and the current status of individual cases as they proceed through the judicial system. |
| What
one bit of information do people not normally know about you? |
| I am an amateur archeologist/treasure hunter and spend many mornings with my metal detector in search of buried riches. |
