Ken Carney

About Ken Carney, P.E., P.S.

Kenneth P. Carney has been the Lorain County Engineer/ Sanitary Engineer since 1989. As County Engineer, his office is responsible for the care and maintenance of 270 miles of county roads, 231 bridges, 1200 county culverts and over 36 miles of off road ditches. As Sanitary Engineer he oversees 4 sewage treatment plants, 40 miles of waterlines and 60 miles of sanitary sewers.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the District 9 Integrating Committee of the Ohio Public Works Commission (Issue 2), the publicly funded State Agency that approves and finances qualified infrastructure projects for county and local communities. He is also a member on the board of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), a distributor of federal funding. Mr. Carney has also served as President of the County Engineer's Association of Ohio N.E. District as well as the American Society of Highway Engineers N.E. District.

As a board member of NOACA, he serves on various additional committees. These include the Environmental Advisory Committee, the Water Quality Subcommittee, the Bicycle Advisory Council, and the Transportation Advisory Committee. Mr. Carney's Office is also represented on the Transportation Storm Water Quality Council – in which he serves as Chairman, the Regional Transportation Investment Subcommittee, and the Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative (TLCI) project selection taskforce.

His involvement with various public work agencies allows him input and guidance into the selection of projects not only for Lorain County highway, bridge and sanitary projects, but Federal and State projects within the area as well. This continued commitment to numerous professional organizations has also greatly assisted Mr. Carney in successfully obtaining national recognition for his highway safety program for Lorain County.

Ken is a life-long resident of Lorain County; he has resided in Amherst Township since 1993. Ken has one daughter and four grandchildren.
