2009 Projects

Elyria- The Ohio Public Works Commission District 9 Integrating Committee has approved the list of projects to be funded for 2009; O.P.W.C. District 9 encompasses Huron, Medina & Lorain Counties. The applications and list of projects will be submitted to OPWC in Columbus in early October.
County Engineer Ken Carney, Chairman of this committee, said” Project approval is the culmination of an intricate and lengthy process of applications being reviewed and ranked by various sub-committees, then forwarded to the entire Integrating Committee for final review and approval”. The Integrating Committee is comprised of County, City, Village and Townships representatives of all three-member counties.
Carney said that for year 2009, 49 projects are slated to receive $13,583,331 in funding. This to include 28 road projects.7 bridge projects,2 waterline, 4 storm sewer projects and 2 sanitary sewer projects .The combined total construction cost of all 49 projects is $22,177,153..
District 9 has received $191,113,926 towards funding $434,723,059 worth of projects in the previous 22 rounds, Carney said.
This round is larger then prior rounds due to the Governor’s Economic Stimulus package.
Round 30 was moved up and will be distributed with round 23 funds. The regular OPWC bond funds will be available in December rather then July, moving construction ahead . Additional funds may be available early next year to fund projects that are currently on the unfunded list.
As an added aside, any funds not utilized from previous construction projects are collected until enough funds exist to finance other worthy District projects that may not have made the final recommended list.
Following is a list of the top 49 projects in District 9 that were approved for 2009 funding that will be submitted to the O.P.W.C. for distribution of funds.
