January 22, 2019 — The annual Open House is expected to draw over 2,000 prospective students and their parents on Sunday, January 27, from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm.

The Open House attendees get an in-depth view of the JVS career-technical programs in the following career areas: Building Trades, Business/Marketing, Community Service/Healthcare, Culinary, Manufacturing/Engineering and Transportation.

Instructors from the JVS Connections Academy will also be available to discuss program options for 9th and 10th-grade students in the Career Readiness and Career Explorations Programs.

The JVS Open House campaign is utilizing billboards, radio and TV commercials, and digital ads to promote the highly anticipated event.

The Open House campaign also highlights some of our students in non-traditional programs, like Samantha Forthofer, Collision Repair junior from Avon. Forthofer came to the JVS as a freshman and was able to find out exactly what career path she wanted to focus on.

"The JVS has helped me with my future," shared Forthofer. "I like working with cars, painting them and finishing them, start to finish I love the process. There are so many different things you can do here at JVS, and there really is something for everyone."

During the Lorain County JVS Open House, visitors will have the opportunity to:
- Tour our campus and visit the career-technical labs and classrooms.
- Talk with teachers, current students, and alumni about our technical programs and academic course offerings.
- Explore College Credit Plus options for earning college credit while attending the JVS.
- Apply for enrollment with the assistance of JVS staff members.
- View student demonstrations of industry-specific equipment used daily in training labs.
- Discover opportunities to develop leadership skills through involvement in career-technical youth organizations.
- Learn about how the JVS Summer Internship Program can provide on-the-job training and school credit.
- Investigate continuing education options after graduation including college, technical school, and apprenticeship training.

William Keller, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Midview shared that he wasn't too sure what career path he wanted to take prior to coming to the JVS as a freshman. "I was excited to see what I could do and the 9th and 10th grade program showed me so much. It actually pointed me in the direction of landscape and greenhouse management, and I'm really glad that it did."

The JVS Adult Career Center staff will also be on hand to register adult students for spring semester classes and talk with adults interested in changing careers or upgrading their skills.
