LCCC University Partnership Student Awarded National Inspirational Leadership Award

February 14, 2011 — Lydia Lee-Mosely, an M3C Fellow at , has been awarded the M3C Fellows Program National Inspirational Leadership Award. Lee-Mosely has served as an M3C fellow at LCCC with Ohio Campus Compact’s M3C program, from January 2010 to January 2011.

The M3C Fellows Program is an AmeriCorps Education Award program dedicated to supporting and developing peer networks that enable students to serve as agents of civic engagement in their local communities.

While serving, she was immersed in a variety of community service projects. She mentored students in LCCC's Early College High School program, facilitated community festivals, worked with fundraisers through Save Our Children, mentored her fellow M3C members, and served as vice president on LCCC's Student Senate, where she created and expanded community-based programming for students and community members alike.

Lee-Mosely, of Elyria, did all this while going to school full time, working two part time jobs, and raising a child with her husband. "It was challenging," she said, "but [AmeriCorps] offered me an opportunity to get out there. I met a lot of great people and re-met in a different capacity a lot of great people I knew before."

Her supervisor nominated her for this award because Lee-Mosely demonstrated herself to be a model of civic engagement. "For Lydia her heart asks 'What can I do to help?' and her mind answers with a multitude of ways she can accomplish a goal," said Julia Provoznik, M3C Fellows Program Coordinator at LCCC, and Lee-Mosely’s supervisor.

Lee-Mosely completed her AmeriCorps service in late January. She is currently working on a bachelor’s of science degree in Exercise Science from The University of Akron through LCCC’s University Partnership program.

The M3C Fellows Program - an AmeriCorps Education Award Program – is a 10-state initiative dedicated to integrating education with civic engagement, increasing college retention rates, and making college more affordable for students across the Midwest. Members are mentored by campus and state coordinators and receive an education award after completing service hours with community organizations.
