The Lorain County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is designed to assist and support Lorain County communities during health emergencies and health-related events.
The vision of the Lorain County MRC is to allow volunteers to use their professional expertise to support public health efforts in their communities during times of emergency and non-emergency.
The Lorain County MRC's purpose is to assist and support local communities in preventing, protecting against, responding to, and recovering from man-made and natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and/or outbreaks of infectious disease.
The Lorain County MRC will work within Lorain County. If volunteers choose, they can assist with regional, state, and/or national response efforts.
The Medical Reserve Corps is a partner program of the Citizen Corps and was founded in 2002 after President Bush's State of the Union address, where he asked all Americans to volunteer for their country. The Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps is headquartered in the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General. MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their communities. Volunteers can also make the decision to assist with emergencies state- and nationwide.
The Lorain County MRC was created in March 2008 to aid Lorain County before, during, and after an emergency. The Lorain County MRC is comprised of licensed health and medical professionals, including nurses, nurse practitioners, veterinarians, pharmacists, doctors, chiropractors, physician assistants, dentists, and others, and non-medical volunteers that will assist and support county efforts.
