April is National Autism Awareness Month

April 1, 2000 — One in five hundred individuals are affected by Autism, making it one of the most common developmental disabilities. Autism is a neurobiological disorder that interferes with the areas of reasoning, social interaction, communication and affects how they relate to the world around them. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and are more common in boys. The good news is that it's treatable, individuals can improve significantly with well-designed, intensive intervention programs. Each year researchers bring us closer to the answers that are needed to fit together the puzzle pieces of Autism, but there is a long way to go.
