Our History
The Boys &
Girls Clubs of Lorain County opened its first unit in Oberlin in March
of 1999. Over the past nine years, The Club has experienced tremendous
growth and expanded to ten operating units and school based sites
serving over 3,800 children.
Our
after-school programs provide children with affordable opportunities to
participate in quality educational and recreational programs. Our
primary goal is to assist youth members in developing skills and
qualities to become responsible citizens and leaders. The Boys & Girls
Clubs of Lorain County builds good citizens through daily mentoring and
guidance in behavior and attitude.
Our mission
is to work with youth of all backgrounds, with special concern for those
from disadvantaged circumstances, to help them develop the skills to
become productive citizens and leaders.
Recognizing
developmental principles, The Club offers diversified program activities
in six core service areas, which include Character and Leadership
Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills,
Sports, Fitness and Recreation and the Arts and Technology.
These
programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and
girls by instilling a sense of competence, a sense of usefulness, a
sense of belonging and a sense of power and influence.
In keeping
with the philosophy of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, services are
available to all youth between the ages of 6-18 for a nominal membership
fee of $5 per year. Membership is transferable to all of our clubs
across Lorain County.
