On Saturday, May 19, 2012, members of Church of the Open Door and Love, Inc. along with residents from South Elyria will join parent volunteers from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County and Our F.A.M.I.L.Y. to kick-off a new housing program called “Uplift Elyria”. Through the program, volunteers are renovating a donated home and planting a community garden adjacent to the Elyria Community Center. The work – including painting, landscaping, and other interior and exterior repairs – is done by volunteers who use donated materials whenever possible. Sign Up Today through |
Inspired by the success of the Harlem Children's Zone, The YES Zone aims to address significant challenges faced by students and families living in high-poverty communities by providing resources to plan and implement a continuum of services from early learning to college and career. The program model is also at the center of the White House Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, which seeks to align federal housing, education, justice and health programs with the overarching goal of transforming neighborhoods of concentrated poverty into neighborhoods of opportunity.
