Coaching Staff

The Directors of Advance Volleyball Program are very proud of their staff.  These coaches were selected for many reasons.  The first reason being their enthusiasm for sharing this great game of volleyball with young athletes.  We feel that in order to promote the sport of volleyball, a love of the game has to come through in all aspects of training.

Secondly, they had to “buy in” to our methods and ideology. Advance Volleyball is setting a course to change the traditional thoughts of training athletes. Our coaches understand what we are trying to accomplish over the long term and are willing to adjust their thinking accordingly. They are committed to learning and applying our regimen as well as continuing to build their own skills through continued education and training.

Lastly, they were chosen because we feel they are upstanding people with good moral character.  In today’s society our children are affected by so much negativity that we want to make sure that every aspect of our program is positive and beneficial. These coaches have shown that they conduct themselves in a way that will be a good example to the young athlete.

All coaches considered by the Directors of Advance Volleyball fall under the same scrutiny listed above. In this way, Advance Volleyball will always be a place you as a parent, player, or coach can speak positively about and be proud to be a part of.

Coach Armstrong's Comments on the "Advance Volleyball Program"

“I know that this training program will help every athlete accomplish whatever goals they have set for themselves. Coach "D" - David Dorinski

Coach Dorinski has lived and worked in the Lorain County area his entire life. He attended Clearview High School in Lorain and was one of the areas outstanding athletes. He excelled in football and track and received many local and state awards for both. He also played baseball and basketball with great success. Some of his football records still stand today from his days as a running back. He attributes his success to not only fine coaching but also his burning desire to be the best athlete he could be in any sport.

After High School he carried that same desire to college and became a standout athlete and student at The College of Wooster and then Kent State University. He played and trained with several players who are now professional football players and ran on the same relay team as some of the fastest men in the world. They would later go on to represent the USA in the Olympics.

Coach “D” did not stop there. Over 20 Plus years ago he discovered the game of volleyball with some friends at Lakeview Beach. With the same fire inside he became a true student of the game constantly challenging him to become a great player. With that accomplished, he turned to learning more about the game inside and out. He applied what he knew and learned to organize two of the largest beach volleyball tournaments in the country and beach leagues for all aged athletes. He was player/coach of a well-respected USVBA Men’s’ Open team and coach of an Open USVBA Women’s team for several years. Coach “D” served as a certified official and scorekeeper for the USVBA. He was also instrumental in bringing Pro Beach Volleyball (AVP) to the Cleveland area.  Coach “D” departed after his fifth year of coaching at Elyria Catholic High School and is now the Head Varsity Coach at Clearview High School (2nd Year).

Now Coach Dorinski is bringing all of his experience, knowledge and passion to the Advance Volleyball Training Program. His constantly expanding knowledge of the latest training techniques and advances in volleyball will bring athletes to a better level faster. Combine that with his quality organizational skills and attention to detail and you have a very qualified and instrumental person in the advancement of the sport of volleyball.

As a four-year letter winner in volleyball she earned the ultimate local award as Lorain County Miss Volleyball and many other athletic awards. More importantly to Rachel she was also the Salutatorian of her graduating class.

Rachel has a deep understanding of hard work, determination and competition and how it pays dividends as a walk-on volleyball player at U of C. As a walk-on freshman Rachel earned a starting spot on this Division 1 team after only two matches. As a defensive specialist, Rachel became a key member of the Bearcats team and was rewarded the following year with an athletic scholarship that would carry her through the next three years. Throughout her Conference USA volleyball career she earned many conference accolades in defense. She was also honored by her teammates by being selected as team captain her senior year. That year, Rachel helped lead the Bearcats to a school record; their first ever appearance in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Rachel always kept her focus on academics even though the playing and practice schedules were difficult. She earned many academic awards including Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Academic Commitment and Excellence Awards Program, Athletic Academic Student of the Quarter, University Dean’s List, Member of Golden Key International Honor Society and named Student of the year for the U of C Real Estate Program.

Rachel’s other volleyball experience comes from playing in many tournaments indoors and on the beach as well as a clinician at Kent State, U of C, and Firelands High School volleyball camps.

Rachel is a welcomed addition to Advance and an outstanding role model for any young athlete. Her experiences make her a great resource for information and direction in a young woman’s athletic and academic career in high school and beyond.

Rachel is married to Mike Collier who was a standout Basketball Player for Clearview High School.  The Colliers reside in South Amherst.
